Belmont pupil appears on ITV’s This Morning to raise awareness of Childhood Cancer
Last week, at the start of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Belmont Academy pupil, Olivia Taylor and her parents, appeared on national television to raise vital awareness for children affected by cancer.
For several years, the family has supported Children with Cancer UK, actively fundraising to help advance research and provide support for young patients and their families. This follows Olivia’s own diagnosis with a Brain Tumour which has resulted in Olivia losing her vision as the tumour is on the optic nerves.
Olivia is no stranger to the spotlight, having recently made an appearance on BBC’s Eastenders. She has also recorded adverts for Global Radio stations across the country, helping to spread the message about the impact of childhood cancer and the importance of ongoing support and research.
Adding to this remarkable story, Children with Cancer UK has created a mini teddy bear, named “Corry” after Olivia’s own personal teddy. The name also carries a special connection to the recent King’s Coronation, at which Olivia was gifted the original Corry bear. The new mini teddy will serve both as a symbol of hope and as a fundraising item to further the charity’s work.
Olivia and her parents appeared live on ITV’s This Morning last week to share their story, highlight the campaign, and raise greater awareness of the challenges faced by children and families living with cancer.
Lucy Childs, Headteacher at Belmont Academy, says:
“We are incredibly proud of amazing Olivia and her family for their courage and commitment to helping other people. Their efforts not only support Children with Cancer UK but also inspire our entire community to stand together in making a difference.
“Well done Olivia you are such a special part of our school. We look forward to seeing your next TV appearance!”
